Built for horizontal and vertical installations
Ideal for customers who need both horizontal and vertical mounting flexibility in one system. If you want to mount your Starlink Mini on the roof of your vehicle using the SM2, but also have the ability to install it vertically on an RV wall, trailer, service body, or equipment panel using the VSM, the SM6 gives you that freedom. It’s perfect for users who operate across multiple vehicles or environments and need a mounting solution that adapts to different configurations without buying separate systems.
Key features
- Dual-system modular design: Combines the SM2 Mount and VSM (Vertical Surface Mount) for horizontal and vertical installations in one kit.
- Use together or separately: Attach the SM2 to the VSM for a vertical installation, or detach it to use the SM2 independently on a vehicle roof, compatible tripod or interior glass roof.
- Three VSM installation methods: Choose large 6-inch suction cups, heavy-duty rubber magnets or permanent installation using the included pre-drilled U-brackets.
- Four SM2 mounting configurations: The standalone SM2 supports rubber magnets, 3-inch manual suction cups, a compatible tripod and suction cups mounted upside down for interior glass mounting.
- Two distinct hardware systems: The SM2 uses four smaller mounting points with 3-inch suction cups or 1 5/8-inch magnets. The VSM uses two larger mounting points with 6-inch suction cups or approximately 3.5-inch magnets. These suction cup and magnet sets are not interchangeable.
- Strong rubber-coated magnets: The SM2 magnet set provides over 130 pounds of combined pull force. Each larger VSM magnet provides over 130 pounds of pull force, for over 260 pounds combined.
- Optional electronic VSM suction cups: The electronic cups automatically re-pump when vacuum drops below 80%. They are USB-rechargeable, water-resistant and operate for approximately 2–3 weeks per charge.
- Adjustable vertical alignment: The VSM provides approximately ±10° of tilt adjustment to compensate for angled mounting surfaces.
- Integrated SM2 wind deflector: The SM2’s low profile and wind deflector help reduce wind noise and improve airflow during highway driving.
- Compatible add-on options: After removal from the VSM, the SM2 can use a spare tire mount with strap, a pole mount adapter, rubber magnets or suction cups.
- Aluminum construction: Precision-engineered aluminum and durable mounting components are designed for vibration, weather exposure and demanding conditions.

Frequently asked questions
What is the SM6, and what is included?
The SatGear SM6 combines the SM2 Mount with the VSM (Vertical Surface Mount). Use them together for vertical installations, or detach the SM2 and use it independently. The SM2 includes a wind deflector. The kit includes U-brackets for the VSM; magnets and suction cups depend on the mounting option you select. Starlink Mini is sold separately.
Can I detach the SM2 from the VSM (Vertical Surface Mount)?
Yes. The SM2 is the removable top mount in the SM6 system. Unfasten the SM2 from the VSM, then install the compatible mounting accessories for your next location. You can use the SM2 with a spare tire mount and strap, a pole mount adapter, rubber magnets or 3-inch manual suction cups.
Which attachments can I use with the SM2 after removing it from the VSM?
Compatible options include the SatGear spare tire mount with strap, the pole mount adapter, SM2-size rubber magnets and 3-inch manual suction cups. Find these options on our Accessories page.
The MM4 bracket kit and MM5 L-bracket kit are not compatible with the SM2. Choose accessories listed for the SM2 or SM Series.
Are the SM2 and VSM suction cups and magnets interchangeable?
No. The SM2 uses four smaller mounting points with 3-inch manual suction cups or 1 5/8-inch rubber magnets. The VSM uses two larger mounting points with 6-inch suction cups or approximately 3.5-inch heavy-duty magnets. Each hardware set is designed for its own mount.
Can I install the SM6 without drilling?
Yes. Use the VSM’s suction cups on a surface that supports a suction seal, or its magnets on a steel surface that attracts a magnet. The SM2 can also be used independently with its own smaller suction cups or rubber magnets. Permanent installation is available through the VSM’s pre-drilled U-brackets.
Where can I mount the SM6?
With the VSM attached, the SM6 can be installed on vertical surfaces such as RV walls, vehicle side panels, trailers, service bodies, equipment enclosures and shipping containers. Choose VSM-size suction cups, magnets or the included U-brackets for installation with screws. Detach the SM2 when you want to use it independently on a vehicle roof or another compatible setup.
Can I permanently mount the VSM and move it later?
Yes. Screw or bolt the included U-brackets to the vertical surface, then attach the VSM to those U-brackets using the thumb screws. You can leave the U-brackets installed and remove the VSM.
Additional U-bracket sets from our Accessories page let you prepare more locations. For example, leave one set of U-brackets screwed to a shipping container, then move the VSM to another set fitted with magnets or suction cups for an RV or utility vehicle.
What surfaces do the VSM’s 6-inch suction cups need?
The large cups can be used on glass, metal, vehicle panels, RV walls and other vertical surfaces. Each cup needs a clean, flat area at least 6 inches across, without indents or ridges that interrupt the seal.
The surface does not have to be perfectly smooth. Lightly textured surfaces, such as textured powder-coated panels or flat areas of shipping-container walls, can also work when each cup forms and maintains a complete seal.
What is the difference between manual and electronic VSM suction cups?
Both VSM options use two large 6-inch cups. Manual cups use a hand-operated pump. Electronic cups monitor vacuum pressure and automatically re-pump when it drops below 80%. They are USB-rechargeable, water-resistant and operate for approximately 2–3 weeks per charge. The standalone SM2 uses its separate 3-inch manual cups.
How strong are the SM6 magnets?
The two mounting systems use different magnet sets. The SM2’s four smaller rubber-coated magnets provide over 130 pounds of combined pull force. Each of the VSM’s two larger magnets provides over 130 pounds of pull force, for over 260 pounds combined. Check that your mounting panel attracts a magnet.
Can I use the SM2 inside my vehicle?
Yes. Detach the SM2 from the VSM and mount the SM2’s 3-inch suction cups upside down on top of the mount. This lets you attach it inside a sunroof, moonroof or panoramic glass roof with enough space for the mount and the suction cups.
Can I adjust the SM2’s magnet or suction cup spacing?
Yes. SatGear’s SM Series mounts, including the SM2, allow you to adjust the spacing of the magnets or suction cups using the four slots on the bottom. Adjust the width to suit your vehicle and the spacing of its roof ridges. Each suction cup needs enough flat area to form a complete seal.
Can I attach the SM2 directly to a tripod?
Yes. The SM2 has a built-in 1/4-20 threaded hole. A compatible tripod screws directly into it without an adapter.
Is the SM2 intended for a roof rack?
No. The SM2 is not intended for roof-rack installation. Choose the SM3 for a roof rack. Its wider cross sections accommodate roof-rack crossbars, which are commonly 2.5–3 inches wide. The SM3 uses the roof-rack manufacturer’s hardware through its mounting slots; roof-rack fasteners are not included.
Can I adjust the angle of the SM6?
Yes. The VSM provides approximately ±10° of tilt adjustment so you can compensate for an angled vertical mounting surface.
Are magnets and suction cups included with every SM6 order?
They depend on the mounting option you select. Choices include hardware for the SM2 only, the VSM only or both systems, with manual suction cups, electronic VSM suction cups and magnet combinations available. The option without suction cups or magnets still includes the SM2, VSM and U-brackets for a permanent installation with screws.
